Wayne County welcomes you to Pennsylvania’s Northeast!  Our corner of the state is a region of all seasons, filled with beauty, culture and historical sites.  Whether you are planning to visit our area for a short time, find your vacation home, or relocating, we are confident you will find your time here to pleasant and worthwhile.

Honesdale – more specifically, the county seat of Wayne County – is the precise location of the birth of the American railroad.  The first steam locomotive, the Stourbridge Lion, built in Stourbridge, England, was brought across the sea and set up on the tracks of the Delaward and Hudson Canal Company in Honesdale in 1829.  An exact replica can now be seen at the Wayne County Historical Building on Main Street.  The original train is in the Smithsonian Institute of Washington DC.

The restored Victorian town of Hawley along the Lackawaxen River offers special events throughout the year, theatre productions and shopping.  Antiquing is a favorite activity in Wayne County with plenty of dealers to visit.  The Dorflinger-Suydam Wildlife Sanctuary and Glass Museum offers hiking trails, summer outdoor concerts, art shows and an extensive collection of pieces of Dorflinger glass which graced the tables of Presidents Lincoln to Wilson.

Wayne County had more lakes than any other county in Pennsylvania.  So bring your fishing rod, the trout, bass, walleyes, pickerel, muskies and salmon are biting.  Lake Wallenpaupack is a marvel to behold. The second largest man-made lake in the north east. With so many communities and so much to do, there is a perfect vacation or full time living situation for everyone. Public boat launch site, picnic areas, and plenty of places to go fishing. A fantastic lake for power boating as well as row boating. Boat and jet-ski rentals are also available. Located just off of Route 590 or Route 507 and being close to Interstate Route 84 makes accessability and commuting easy.
